Added: 25 May 2017
Hyundai are set to unleash a brand-new SUV to the market to join their already successful Santa-Fe & Tucson models.
Their latest addition to the SUV market has been spotted out on the streets in testing and we’re on hand to bring you up to speed with the all the latest information ahead of its eagerly anticipated launch later this summer. A reader of Dutch magazine AutoWeek managed to take a spy shot which revealed what we can expect from their new family-SUV.
In-line with the Santa Fe & the Tucson, Hyundai have named their latest SUV after a Western city, this time opting for Hawaii’s Kona. The image snapped shows a flowing,colour-contrasting roof that is finished off by a rising kink over the rear-window. The sweeping side profile shows the elegance of the Kona’s exterior, whilst the black plastic cladding around the bold wheel arches and skid plate reveal its rugged side to deal with tougher terrains. The last main reveal from the secretive pictures showcase its sporty looking five-spoke alloy wheels to compliment the look. This is the first in-depth view we have got of the Kona as Hyundai have only teased us with a dark and shadowed picture of the car’s front end. The super-sleek headlights showcased are set to sit above a complex lattice grille that will deliver an aggressive face.
The Kona is due to go on sale in the UK in October as expectation and excitement builds upon its arrival. Adding to the aforementioned Tucson &Santa-Fe, Hyundai’s SUV range will be extended to three, with the Kona fitting in as the smallest of available. The new addition to the SUV family is expected to sit on the chassis that Hyundai have equipped the current i20 with, due to both its size and the fact the platform is just two years old.
The Korean manufacturer has remained tight-lipped on what will be available under the bonnet but we are expecting to see the range of engines available on the latest i30. This means there will be a selection of turbocharged 1.0 engines, and 1.4 four-cylinder petrol engines as well as 2 variants of tune on a 1.6 diesel.
