Hyundai's All-new Electric Hatchback: Introducing the IONIQ 3

The all-new IONIQ 3 is a fully electric compact hatchback, and the newest, most accessible member of Hyundai's award-winning IONIQ range.

Update, 19 August 2026: order books for the IONIQ 3 are now open, with UK prices starting at £22,245. This article has been updated with confirmed pricing and specifications.

We're pleased to share that an exciting new addition to Hyundai's electric family is heading to Richmond Hyundai's five showrooms in Portsmouth, Southampton, Bognor Regis, Guildford and Lymington. The all-new IONIQ 3 is a fully electric compact hatchback, and the newest, most accessible member of Hyundai's award-winning IONIQ range.

Designed in Europe and built for European drivers, the IONIQ 3 brings bold styling and intuitive technology into a smaller, more everyday-friendly package. It's the IONIQ for school runs, city parking, weekend road trips and everything in between.

"With IONIQ 3, we are bringing the bold design, driving enjoyment and advanced features of the IONIQ brand to a broader range of customers across Europe. Built for people's real everyday needs, IONIQ 3 combines an expected segment-leading driving range and aerodynamics with extraordinary levels of space, comfort and practicality."

Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe

Bold on the Outside, Clever on the Inside

Hyundai is calling the IONIQ 3's silhouette the "Aero Hatch": a sleek, low-slung profile that slips through the air more cleanly than almost anything else in the compact EV segment, with a drag coefficient of 0.263. That shape isn't just about looks. It helps deliver a WLTP range of up to 308 miles (496 km) from the Long-Range version, enough for most drivers to cover a week of commuting on a single charge.

Step inside and it feels more like a living room than a traditional car interior. Hyundai's "Furnished Space" approach, together with a long wheelbase and flat floor, creates genuine room for three adults in the back, while a generous 441-litre boot (with an under-floor Megabox compartment) swallows the weekly shop, a buggy or your camping gear without fuss.

Smart Charging, Smarter Technology

The IONIQ 3 can charge from 10 to 80% in around 29 minutes at a DC rapid charger, and tops up at up to 22 kW on AC. That makes it perfect for a quick plug-in while you're at work, out shopping or grabbing a coffee.

It's also the first European Hyundai to feature Pleos Connect, the brand's new Android Automotive OS-based infotainment system, with a crisp 12.9-inch (or optional 14.6-inch) display and built-in Google services. Add Hyundai Digital Key 2 to unlock and start the car with your phone, Plug & Charge for tap-free public charging, and Vehicle-to-Load so you can power a laptop, kettle or camping fridge straight from the car. All told, the IONIQ 3 feels genuinely thought through for real life.

On the safety side, Hyundai SmartSense is fitted as standard, with Highway Driving Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor and seven airbags.

"The IONIQ 3 is a really exciting moment for our Hyundai customers. It brings everything people love about the IONIQ range, including the style, technology and driving range, into a smaller, more everyday-friendly package. We can't wait to welcome customers into our showrooms to see it in person."

Record Interest at Goodwood

The IONIQ 3 made its public driving debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July, just along the coast from our Bognor Regis showroom, tackling the famous hillclimb in front of UK crowds for the first time. Hyundai reported record levels of customer interest in the car at the event, so the buzz around this launch is real.

Order books opened in August, with UK prices starting at £22,245 for the Advance 42kWh and rising to £31,945 for the N Line Evo. Hyundai is applying a £1,500 reservation saving to every 61kWh version while the Electric Car Grant assessment is completed. You can see the full trim ladder on our IONIQ 3 model page.
