What is the Motability Scheme?

The scheme offers an affordable and convenient way to gain increased freedom and independence. Comprehensive Motability Scheme Package
The Motability Scheme is an all-inclusive package. Every three-year car lease includes:
Insurance for up to three drivers
Servicing and maintenance
Full breakdown cover
Tyre repair and replacement
A home chargepoint and standard installation when you choose an electric vehicle on the Motability Scheme, or access to the bp pulse network
Following UK Government tax changes, updates are being introduced to ensure the Scheme remains sustainable long term. From 1 July 2026 the lease will include:
Mileage allowance: 30,000 miles over a three-year lease
Tyre replacement: up to six tyres during a three-year lease (including up to four due to damage)
EU breakdown: customers will need to pay an admin fee for a VE103 certificate and inform the RAC when travelling outside the UK’

Understanding the Motability Scheme
The Motability Foundation is a registered charity that aims to enhance the lives of disabled people through their mobility. If you’re eligible for the Motability Scheme, you could have a new car every three years, and there can be two nominated drivers who can drive on your behalf if you don’t have a driving licence.
Eligibility Criteria for the Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme is available to anyone who receives one of the following allowances and there must be at least 12 months award length of the allowance remaining:
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP);
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA);
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS);
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP);
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Child Disability Payment (CDP); and
- Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of the Adult Disability Payment (ADP)

Costs and Inclusions
The Motability Scheme offers a comprehensive package that covers a range of costs and inclusions to make your experience hassle-free. This includes insurance cover, servicing and maintenance, breakdown cover, road tax, MOT, and free replacement tyres and windscreens.
However, it’s important to note that fuel costs are not included, and there is a charge of 5p per mile for any excess mileage. For larger or high-specification cars and wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs), an advance payment may be required. With these inclusions, you can enjoy peace of mind and focus on the freedom and independence that comes with your Motability Scheme vehicle.
