The New Face of Premium Motability

We're happy to offer new vehicles from our exceptional brands: Hyundai, MG, Škoda and Suzuki from which there are plenty of premium options.

In November of 2025, the UK's autumn budget was released. The circumstances of that release aside - there was a lot for us at Richmond Motor Group to take note of, including the new 3-pence-per-mile EV surcharge, as well as the removal of premium vehicles from the Motability Scheme. We've been proud to be a part of the Motability Scheme for the last two decades, providing road users with quality new cars that suit their accessibility requirements.

The removal of other brands from the Motability scheme means that more drivers than ever before will be searching for a premium vehicle that's available as part of the Motability Scheme. We're happy to be able to offer new vehicles from our exceptional brands: Hyundai, MG, Škoda and Suzuki from which there are plenty of premium options.

Motability Scheme

What is Motability?

Motability is a UK-wide programme that allows people in reciept of either PIP, DLA or Veterans benefits to finance a new car in order to help them get around. The Motability Scheme was launched in the 1970s and helps people that are less mobile to have access to a vehicle. In certain situations, carers and family members are able to drive these vehicles too, provided their journey is directly in aid of the vehicle lessee.

Are premium vehicles still available on Motability?

In a word: No. Premium vehicles from certain brands are now all excluded from Motability programme. That said, there are multiple top-spec trims available from Hyundai, MG, Skoda and Suzuki such as the all-new Suzuki e Vitara and Škoda Enyaq iV.

What's included in Motability?

There's a lot included - by contributing the Mobility Component of their respective benefit/allowance, Motability users can lease a new vehicle with insurance, maintenance and Vehicle Excise Duty (Car tax) included. From July 1st 2026, VAT applies to the advance payment.

Here's our summary of what's included:

  • The Vehicle Itself
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Breakdown Assistance from RAC
  • Windscreen Replacement
  • Car Tax (Vehicle Excise Duty)
  • Car Insurance

Fuel costs are not included in the Motability scheme; there is also a mileage limit of 60,000 miles over three years.

What about Electric Vehicles?

Motability also covers the installation of your home chargepoint, but not charging costs. With the UK target to phase out the sale of petrol and diesel cars still slated for 2030, now is the perfect time to get ahead of the curve and commit to an Electric Vehicle. However, there are rumours circulating that this could be pushed back to as late as 2040.
