Apple CarPlay & Google Auto Setup
Hyundai cars have some of the most innovative designs on the market. They are also affordable and come with many features. Over the years Hyundai has tried to come up with ways to make their cars safer. Many people are on their cell phones while they are driving and this is dangerous not only to them but to other road users as well. To combat this problem Hyundai cars now allow users to access the apps on their phone while they are driving. This makes using the phone when you are driving a lot safer than it was before. Whether you use an Apple device or an Android device Hyundai cars have made it easy for you to use your phone while behind the wheel.
Apple CarPlay
Apple CarPlay is easy to set up and will help you to successfully navigate your phone hands-free.
- Step 1: Ensure that your device is ready to set up. You can do this by pressing the setup button. Once you do that select the device setup option.
- Step 2: Select apple car play from the dashboard.
- Step 3: Ensure that you check the “Enable Apple CarPlay” box.
- Step 4: Plug your phone into the USB port that is in your vehicle. The USB port is usually close to the centre console of your vehicle. If you are unsure which port is your USB data port then you should check the owner’s manual that came with the vehicle. You should find all the information you need there.
- Step 5: Your device is likely to be locked and you will need to give some permissions to Apple car play so that it can access your phone and connect to your car.
- Step 6: Once you have given permission, you will officially be connected. You can go ahead and use all the features that come on Apple car play on the touch screen in your car.
- Step 7: The next feature that you will want to enable is the voice recognition feature that is on your steering wheel. You can use this feature to access Siri.
On your steering wheel, you will find a button to enable the VR system. When you short press the VR system button it will give you access to your car’s voice recognition system. If you do a long press you will access Siri.
Does Hyundai Support Wireless Apple CarPlay?
The good news is that some models allow you to connect your phone to Apple car play without using the USB port. You can make a wireless connection very easily. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
You will need to look at your owner's manual to ensure that your car allows wireless connectivity for Apple car play. You will also need to check to see if your device allows wireless car play. You may have to consult your manufacturer in order to find out whether or not your device is compatible.
- Step 1: Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your device.
- Step 2: On the touchscreen select “setup”, then select “wi-fi”
- Step 3: Check, use wi-fi for phone projection. To pair your mobile device so that it can do a mobile projection select “setup”. Next, you will need to select "device connections". Select phone projection then click on “add new”.
- Step 4: Go over to your mobile device you will need to go to the Bluetooth screen. Under “devices”, you should see the name of the model of your vehicle. Click on this name to add it.
- Step 5: You will need to follow all the steps that will be shown on the screen of your phone for this pairing to be successful. In this step, you will be asked to give permission to Apple car play to use your phone.
- Step 6: Once your phone is successfully connected you should see several prompts coming up on your car’s touch screen. Make sure you follow all these steps in detail in order to successfully pair your car and your phone.
Once you have successfully completed all the steps on your car’s touch screen you would have successfully made a wireless connection between your phone and your car. You will now be able to use all the features of Apple car play without having to connect your phone with a USB cable.
Things To Look Out For...
When you first enter your car, you may notice a delay of approximately 20 seconds before you can use the feature on the touch screen of your car. This is a normal lag time for wireless connectivity. If after 20 seconds you do not see any of the Apple car play features on your touchscreen you should then go back to your phone's Bluetooth screen and check to see if wi-fi and Bluetooth are on. If Apple car play still does not display on your screen when wi-fi and Bluetooth are on, you may need to renew the wi-fi passkey. Go to the wi-fi settings page on the touchscreen of your vehicle and this should solve the problem.
The Features You Will Find On Apple CarPlay
The features on Apple car play will be available to you either by using the touchscreen or by asking Siri. You may be curious about the features that will be available to you. On the screen of your car, you will see several different apps, just as you would on your smartphone. While all of them are helpful there are a few that you may find especially invaluable. If you would like to hear some music the Apple music app will give you access to the apple music screen where you can listen to your favourite music.
If you would like some help with navigation, Apple Maps will assist you with finding your way to any location you want. For example, it can show you where the nearest gas station is and give you directions on how to get there.
The messaging feature is extremely useful, especially if you want to send quick short messages using Siri. Just let Siri know that you want to send a text message and you will be asked who you want to text. Once you select a contact, Siri will then ask you what you would like to say in the message. All you have to do is dictate the message, and then Siri will play the message back to you. You will then be asked if you are ready to send a message. Once you are ready to send the message just indicate that by saying "yes". The message will be automatically sent to the recipient.
Not only can you send messages, but you can also listen to messages that have been sent to you as well. Siri understands specific commands such as text (recipient’s name) or Call (recipient’s name). You will also be able to arrange your car play apps. You may also add and remove the apps to suit your preferences. Here are the steps for doing this:
- Step 1: Go to settings and then “General,” press Carplay
- Step 2: You can then press the word “customize”
- Step 3: From there you can use the + or - sign to add or remove apps.
Android Auto Setup
You can also enable Android auto on your Hyundai car. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
- Step 1: Make sure the USB cable is disconnected from your phone to the car. Put the vehicle in park.
- Step 2: Select “Connectivity”
- Step 3: Click enable android auto. You will be asked to confirm if you want to enable android auto. Select, “Yes”.
- Step 4: You can then select the home button to be taken back to the home screen.
- Step 5: Connect your phone using your micro USB cable.
- Step 6: You will be prompted to allow Android Auto permission to change the settings on your phone. In some cases, you may have to accept several different apps.
- Step 7: After that, you will need to accurately set up your navigation. First, you will need to select a location, then click on “mode” and then select “high accuracy”
- Step 8: You can select android auto as the default app, to do this, select android auto, “always” and then “ok”. On your android navigation screen, you will see a message about driving safely. You can read the message and then select, “ do not display this notice again”. You can then press “accept”
- Step 9: The android auto welcome screen will now display. You will be prompted to take a tutorial, if you prefer not to take the tutorial at that time you can press “next”
