New Citroen C3 Baby SUV
Added: 29 November 2016
Citroen are launching a new crossover as part of its plan to overhaul the Picasso and potentially replace that name with Aircross. The small MPV is likely to become a baby SUV when the new model is launched and the test model shows off split daytime running lights and headlamps as well as Airbump protection strips. With Citroen launching a baby SUV they can take on rivals such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.
The model is likely to share its underpinnings with that of the C3 platform and the engine line-up could also go in the same direction with the C3’s more entry level engines left out so it’s likely the Aircross would have a 1.2-litre PureTech three cylinder petrol which outputs around 81-109bhp and the diesel will offer 74-99bhp if the 1.6-litre BlueHDi option is used.
The C3 crossover model will be a part of a more SUV driven line-up from the brand who have plans in place to launch 12 new vehicles during the next five years which is likely to include a C4 Aircross which could replace the current C4 hatchback as well as rival the likes of the Nissan Qashqai. Updated models for the C4 and Grand C4 Picasso MPV models could be on the cards as these models can have better profit margins in them.
Citroen boss Linda Jackson was quoted speaking to Auto Express and said; “The MPV segment has been so successful for us and we have an enormous customer base there” which further suggests these will become very key, core models for the brand.
It’s early days but we are excited to see the updated Citroen baby SUV so keep checking in with Richmond Group for more information on all the latest model updates.
